Evidence-informed update on the importance of strength training for health, wellness and longevity
Types of exercise adaptations (E.g. strength vs. hypertrophy vs. endurance)
Methods of assessing aspects of physical fitness and fitness level
How to set goals based on your results
Training principles and sample protocols for increasing strength/hypertrophy/endurance
How to progress programs to achieve your goals
The benefits of strength training after age 55 are numerous. Studies have shown that regular strength training improves bone, muscle, and overall health and is associated with decreased falls, cognitive decline, and depression.
Let’s explore how you can add this tool to your health plan if you’re a beginner, or boost your results if you’re already training.

Ages 40-55 are generally considered the Peri-menopause and Menopause years. There are many physiologic changes that impact our overall health but more specifically our bone and muscle health. Regular strength training can delay and prevent normal age-related decline in bone mass, muscle strength, muscle power and overall function.

Course Description
Interposed between the two lateral lines of the body, the Deep and Superficial Anterior Lines travel from the cranium to the feet. These lines influence, at varying points along the way, movement in all three planes, our physical function, and innumerable physiologic processes of the body. This course will review the geography of these lines including myofascial and skeletal connections and their neurophysiologic relationships. We will explore the impact of the Anterior Lines on the deep core, the diaphragms, posture, movement, and visceral dysfunction.

Osteopathic Principles in Therapeutic Movement
The Patient Self-Treatment strategy is grounded in the principles of Osteopathy and utilizes an understanding of joint mechanics and movement to restore motion. There are five main reasons to employ self-treatment strategies:
Patients control the movement allowing for the approach to be used at any point along the recovery spectrum
Patients are engaged in the management of their condition
Patient Self-management techniques decrease the load on the Practitioner
Patient Self-management approaches get better and lasting results for the Patient
Patient Self-management approaches provide exceptional return on investment
Participants will be able to quickly assess and identify motion restriction specifically in weight bearing. The methods learned will help Practitioners teach Patients how to restore motion and function in weight bearing and non-weight bearing. Learning to employ Self-Treatment in our daily practice brings great satisfaction to both Practitioners and Patients. The objective of this seminar is to teach YOU how to teach your Patients to treat themselves. In Part 1, we’ll cover a quick and simple motion assessment, self-treatment strategies for the lower girdle, components of successful self-management programs and parameters for progression.
